Apple today introduced the redesigned MacBook Air and the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, both powered by the new M2 chip, bringing the performance and capabilities of the unparalleled M1 chip to the next level. MacBook Air takes everything users love about the world’s best-selling laptop to new heights. The M2 chip powers the most popular Apple systems
The M2 starts the second generation of Apple’s M-series chipset and expands the amazing features of the M1 chip. With this chip’s industry-leading power efficiency, unified memory design, and custom technologies, this new chip delivers better performance and capabilities for the most popular Mac notebooks. At Apple — MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. The M2 chip features a new-generation octa-core CPU with performance and efficiency improvements, and a new-generation Apple GPU, now with up to 10 cores, two more than the M1 chip. The all-new MacBook Air redesigned specifically for the M2 chip
Built from the ground up to fit the M2 chip, MacBook Air has an all-new design that’s ultra-thin at every angle — just 11.3mm thick and weighing just 1.2kg, the all-aluminium one-piece chassis feels solid and durable. The components of this thin and light design are combined efficiently, resulting in a staggering 20 percent reduction in volume. And thanks to the energy-efficient M2 chip, all the capabilities of MacBook Air are integrated into a silent, fanless design. In addition to silver and space gray, MacBook Air is now available in two new colors, night sky and starlight.
The MagSafe port has been brought back into the MacBook Air, giving users a dedicated easy-to-connect charging port that protects the MacBook Air when plugged into a power source, detaching quickly if the charging cable is accidentally pulled. MacBook Air also comes with two Thunderbolt ports for connecting a variety of accessories, and a 3.5mm audio jack that supports high-impedance headphones. New 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display
The new MacBook Air comes with a gorgeous 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, which has been expanded to the sides of the screen and above and around the camera to make room for the menu bar. The result is a screen with much thinner bezels, giving users more room to view their content in great detail. And at 500 nits of brightness, it’s also 25 percent brighter than before. Plus, the new screen now supports 1 billion colors, so photos and movies look incredibly lifelike.
FaceTime HD 1080p camera and four-speaker audio system
MacBook Air includes a new FaceTime HD 1080p camera with a larger image sensor and more efficient pixels, giving you twice the clarity and low-light performance of the previous generation. And when these capabilities are combined with the processing power of the image signal processor developed in the M2 chip, it will make users look their best during video calls.
MacBook Air also features a four-speaker audio system. Speakers and microphones are fully integrated between the keyboard and screen to fit into this slim design, all while delivering a higher quality audio experience. An array of three microphones clearly captures sound using advanced algorithms with beamforming technology, while the speakers produce stereo separation and pure sound. The new MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro are reducing their environmental footprint, because 100% recycled rare earth elements are now used in the enclosure and magnets. The MacBook Air chassis is made of 100% recycled aluminum and is the first Apple product to use certified recycled steel. Both products meet Apple’s high standards for energy efficiency, are free of many hazardous substances, and the wood fibers used in their packaging come from responsibly managed forests. Apple is now carbon-neutral in its operations around the world, and plans to reduce its net climate impact to zero across all of its businesses by 2030, including manufacturing supply chains and all product lifecycles. This means that every chip created by Apple’s Mac, from design to manufacture, will be 100 percent carbon-neutral.
