Earlier this year references to a platform called RealityOS appeared in Apple’s App Store update logs . This confirmed multiple rumors about the company developing a new mixed reality headset.
Just over a week before WWDC kicked off, RealityOS trademark filing details re-emerged online.
A little-known company called Realityo Systems has registered the RealityOS trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The trademark was filed on December 8, 2021 for categories such as peripherals, software, and wearable computers.
And thanks to brand new RealityOS, we may have proof that this new mixed reality headset from Apple may be coming soon. There is evidence linking this specific brand to the manufacturer of the iPhone.
Given the company’s secretive history about its upcoming products, it has a few shell companies that it uses to trademark and patent products that haven’t been released so they aren’t directly linked to Apple in the event of leaks.
For example, one of Apple’s shell companies is Yosemite Research, which the iPhone manufacturer uses to register macOS names like Yosemite and Big Sur.
Last year, this company registered the Monterey brand days before WWDC 2021, and it turns out that Monterey was the official name for macOS 12.
Yosemite Research and Realityo Systems are both registered at the same address as the Corporation Trust Center, a real brand service provider of which Apple is a customer.
The same company has introduced the RealityOS trademark in other countries such as Uganda and Uruguay. Realityo Systems also submitted the trademark application in Brazil in December of last year, and there was an application update on May 10, 2022.
Apple’s Mixed Reality Glasses Coming Soon
Some of these trademarks were sent with a logo using Apple’s proprietary San Francisco typography.
Meanwhile, the RealityOS trademark has set June 8, 2022 as the deadline for international filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, just two days after the WWDC keynote.
The filings also lack any evidence of use, confirming that RealityOS is linked to an unreleased product.
And RealityOS is probably the name of the new operating system created for the company’s upcoming augmented and virtual reality devices.
rOS, short for realityOS, was first reported by Bloomberg in 2017 with the internal codename Oak. According to rumors, Apple is developing an augmented reality headset and a mixed reality headset.
The Augmented Reality glasses project is still under development. But a recent Bloomberg report revealed that company executives recently presented the new headset to the company’s board of directors.
This indicates that the product could be announced at WWDC 2022 next week. For the first time since September 2019, the company is inviting select members of the press and developers to a special event on June 6.
It is not certain that Apple will reveal the new headset in June. But it looks like the company is preparing for a big announcement soon.
