Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ may be the new default flagship in the Android world, but we’ve also got a new mid-range option with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The new 4nm platform brings several firsts to the SD 7 series including a custom AI engine from Qualcomm. Qualcomm, up to 200MP image capture and Android Ready SE for e-money solutions.

 

The Kryo CPU is clocked at up to 2.4GHz along with the Adreno 662 GPU. Qualcomm claims that the new chip handles graphics 20% faster than the outgoing Snapdragon 778G, while AI tasks are said to perform 30% better. on the new platform.

The Adreno Frame Motion Engine is claimed to double the frame rate in games while maintaining the same power consumption as the SD 778G. The new chip can handle up to 16GB of LP-DDR5 RAM.

The SD 7 Gen 1 also gets a Snapdragon X62 5G modem capable of 4.4Gbps download speeds with dual redundant 5G connectivity in both (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes. WiFi 6E is also available as is Bluetooth 5.3 with Snapdragon Sound and aptX support.

The Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP provides support for capturing images up to 200MP and recording 4K HDR video. HEIC 10-bit image capture and HEVC video recording are also possible here. The other version comes first in Android SE and the trusted management engine that is ideal for security for keys and digital wallets.

The first batch of Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 phones is expected to arrive in a few weeks from a wide range of manufacturers. Oppo’s Reno8 Pro is expected to be the first phone on the market with a new chipset when it is announced on May 23.
