The company says the new feature gives creators more flexibility to express themselves on their profiles.
The official release comes after the platform confirmed in April that it was testing the feature. The ability to pin posts is rolling out globally to all users starting now.
And you can pin a post by going to a specific photo or Reel and clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner and selecting Pin to your profile. Once you do this, the post will appear at the top of your profile grid.
When you return to your profile, you see your post in the upper-right corner of the network with a white pin icon. If you decide to add another post or Reel, any pinned posts are shifted to the right.
“Your profile is your space,” Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said in a video posted on his social channels about the new feature. As a result, we’re looking for more ways to give you control over this experience.
The ability to pin a specific post to your profile is a useful feature for users who want to highlight their favorite posts that might not be visible due to their presence at the bottom of the photo grid.
The feature can also be useful for content creators who post frequently but want a particular post to stand out.
Users now have the option to pin Stories to their profile. But this new feature expands this ability to post.
You can now pin three posts to your Instagram account
Previously, you could highlight a post in a story and pin that story to your profile. But this new feature makes this process a lot easier and more straightforward.
Many users use Story Highlights – which appear as bubble thumbnails located below your profile picture and follower count – to show different categories of content. But Pinned Posts allow creators to ensure that certain posts are noticed.
It should be noted that the new feature works similarly to the feature to pin to your Twitter profile and the option to pin videos in Tik Tok, and both features allow you to pin content to the top of your profile.
The new announcement comes as Meta recently launched several features for its Reels products across both Facebook and Instagram.
Notably, the Facebook Reels audio sync feature has been rolled out and support has been added for longer Instagram Reels of up to 90 seconds, up from 60 seconds.
The company has also introduced several creative tools, audio tools, templates, and other options to make Reels more attractive.
