Apple’s Safari browser has reached one billion users, becoming the second browser to reach this milestone, next to Google Chrome, which is still absolutely popular.
According to Atlas VPN data , 1,062,232,879 Internet users (19.16% of all Internet users) are currently using the Safari browser.
Meanwhile, Google Chrome browser has three added that number, with a whopping 3,378,967,819 users. Microsoft’s Edge browser ranks third with 2,12,695,000 users.
Atlas VPN results are based on the percentage of browser market share from GlobalStats. This percentage was converted to numbers using the Internet World Stats scale to retrieve the exact numbers.
The report notes that the growth of Apple’s browser may be linked to the browser’s adoption of privacy and security features. But it is likely a reflection of the mobile market share as Safari and Chrome are installed across Apple and Android devices.
Apple’s browser is automatically installed across each of the company’s devices. While Chrome is installed with most versions of Android. This helps give both tech giants a chance in competition.
While Microsoft ships its Edge browser with Windows, it lost ground in the mobile market because of the failure of Windows Phone.
Apple has introduced several new privacy features for the browser over the past year. These features help in attracting users.
A new browser privacy report shows how many cross-site trackers have stopped Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) from accessing your information and which ones.
Chrome is often considered a more attractive browser with web applications such as YouTube, Calendar, Docs, Maps, etc.
Apple’s browser is still behind Google’s browser
Last week, Google rolled out a new way to use Google Lens across the desktop. This allows Chrome desktop users to search for any image on a web page using Google Lens.
In April, Google also launched a feature called multiple search via Google Lens through its mobile app.
In addition, version 100 of the Chrome browser was launched in late March. And Chrome over Android is 15% faster.
Other browsers in the report included Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Samsung Internet and Opera. As noted, Edge was the third most popular browser with over 212 million users, surpassing Firefox, which has 179 million users.
Since the release of Windows 11, Edge has become the default browser across all devices and has gained a significant increase in its user base.
Firefox is trending towards more privacy-conscious users because it offers protection features such as security against tracking, blocking pop-ups, malware, and phishing. Mozilla released version 100 of the browser at the beginning of May.
And the Samsung Internet browser came in fifth place on the list, which is used by more than 149 million users. While Opera was the last browser on the list with more than 108 million users.
People can use Opera for everyday tasks. It also has a crypto browser and app with a built-in crypto wallet that supports the Ethereum, Polygon, and Celo blockchain technology.
