Huawei is mostly known in the Android smartphone space for its cameras, especially for its Leica-branded camera settings.
But yesterday, Xiaomi officially confirmed that the company will work closely with Leica, the Germany-based camera company, to bring Leica image technology to upcoming smartphone cameras. So will the new Xiaomi-Leica partnership affect the previous Huawei-Leica partnership?
Huawei is no longer in partnership with Leica
As reported by Android Authority , their team officially contacted Huawei via email, to which Huawei officially replied: “We can confirm that the cooperation between our two companies (Huawei and Leica) ended on March 31.”
What this means is that as of May 2022, Huawei is no longer in partnership with Leica, which means the end of Huawei branded Leica smartphones.
For context, the last Leica-branded Huawei smartphones were the Huawei P50 and Huawei P50 Pro which were released last year with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G chipset.
The announcement of the end of the partnership truly marks the end of the smartphone era as Huawei truly considered the best smartphone camera money can buy. Leading Leica brands such as Huawei P20 Pro and Huawei P30 Pro have brought the smartphone market with exceptional innovations in smartphone cameras such as the world’s first triple camera setup and 5x optical zoom in a smartphone.
However, this marks a new chapter for smartphone photography as well. Looking at the official announcement of Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica to improve the camera, it seems that even after the official separation from Huawei, the Leica brand is still interested in staying in the smartphone market with a new partner.
Xiaomi has officially announced that the Xiaomi-Leica partnership will officially bear fruit in the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone scheduled for launch in July 2022.
