Tik Tok has become one of the most growing social media apps, outperforming the giant Facebook – now dead – and becoming one of the most attractive platforms for young users in the world.
According to a new report published by the British BBC, and citing a recent statistic, teenagers in the United Kingdom are turning to Tik Tok in order to know the news as their traditional source for updates, despite the fact that there are no reliable sources with the local government to publish news on the platform.
The report stated that Tik Tok has become the fastest growing news source for people between 12 to 15 years, in a new record success for the platform, as there are 7% of users who resort to Tik Tok in order to learn about different news, after the percentage was only 1% in the last statistic in the year 2020.
Thus, Tik Tok is the most growing by 6% in just two years, while Facebook continues to dominate the statistic with 32% of users, but it declined from 40% in 2020.
It is noteworthy here that Facebook faced a crisis in recent years after it was accused of helping to spread false news, and the famous incident was the impact on the elections in the United States before Donald Trump came to power.
As for the third place in terms of social applications that teenagers resort to to find out the news, Twitter came in third place with 17%, and Instagram fourth with 16%, then WhatsApp with 14%.
Facebook’s decline from 2020 to this year was offset by progress in Instagram and WhatsApp, where the first achieved a growth of 2%, which reflects the extent of the American company’s work to make its platform the strongest competitor to the Tik Tok application in recent years.
For his part, a report by the Guardian newspaper stated that Tik Tok’s record success is incomprehensible, due to the application’s work algorithms, which are based on the fact that it suggests entertainment content that teens like, and therefore considering it a preferred source of news is interesting.
